Too Young to Glow Up
Early Skincare? It’s Getting Earlier.
We’re seeing a new wave of “Sephora Kids” - children as young as 8 asking for serums, exfoliants, and anti-ageing products they’ve seen online or in shops. Some are layering actives that even adult skin struggles with. The pressure to “glow up” is showing up earlier and louder.
But the truth is:
Young skin doesn’t need rescuing, retexturising, or refining.
It needs time. And calm.
Skin at this age is still developing. It’s naturally soft, springy, and barrier-rich — until it’s disrupted. Some of today’s trending products can lead to dryness, redness, bumps, and self-consciousness that never needed to start.
Here’s what most young skin really needs:
At night –
A gentle cleanser to remove the day’s grime 😊
A basic, barrier-friendly moisturiser - only if the skin feels dry.
In the morning –
A gentle cleanse with a damp flannel should suffice - especially for young skin that hasn’t built up oil or debris overnight.
Moisturiser (if needed), and a daily SPF - broad spectrum, factor 30 or above.
5 Skin-Smart Tips for Under-13s:
Use a fragrance-free cleanser made for young skin.
Avoid micellar waters and face wipes - they often contain preservatives and surfactants that disrupt the skin barrier.
Moisturise only if skin feels dry - especially in cold weather or after swimming.
Apply SPF30+ every day - even in the UK.
If spots are starting to show, don’t panic. Step back. Simplify.
THE PRESSURE TO 'GLOW UP' IS SHOWING UP - EARLIER AND LOUDER
Why This Matters
To my knowledge, there are currently no national guidelines in the UK for everyday skincare in children aged 5 to 12. While sun safety and baby care are well covered, guidance for growing children is limited - leaving many families unsure of what their skin actually needs.
But here’s the good news:
Parents are intuitive. You use common sense. You know your child.
And now is a great time to focus on supporting young skin gently - without overdoing it.
The Skin Well™ brings together clear, evidence-informed insights so that you can feel confident in keeping things simple, balanced, and age-appropriate.

If you're at all concerned about your child’s skin - whether it’s dryness, breakouts, irritation or anything that doesn’t seem quite right - it’s always worth speaking to your GP, a qualified skin therapist, or a Corneotherapist trained in barrier-first skincare.
